As I am a head of design at ESports live broadcase production, I lead and manage a team of four designers across product and marketing.
One of My task was to create assets for a live stream event for the game Valorent, called “Valorant Clash”.
The team needed to create 2d and Motion graphic assets within 3 weeks.
I am responsible for the conceptualisation, planning and delivery of graphic and video assets for the live broadcast production and campaigns running on social media platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Youtube and Twitch.
I created briefs for each of the 23 assets and divided them between the designers.
The problem was that the motion designer couldn't do the work to the quality we expected. So I took over the task to produce a motion teaser trailer for display on social media.
The problems I faced were the following…
-
Limited time
-
Varolant game IP Issue ( IP often stands for Intellectual Property)
We only had permission to use a simple image of a map for the background of our trailer.
It was an original in game graphic but it was not very recognisable in my opinion. As it was terrible and I was concerned that it would not be enough.
Solution:
1. IP issue: It isn’t easy to recognize the game and theme without the appearance of a game character in the Teaser video. I use the theme of the Valorant Clash background and added the shooting sounds and background music sounds effects as well as explosion animation effects to the font.
The Users will understand that Valorent is a First person Hero Shooter.
2. I switched to the emergency communication method and reprioritized the task to see if some of the design process steps can be pushed back on or slimmed-down.
Instead of the 3 regular design feedback meetings with the account manager, team lead and designers, we used a task management tool, to let the customer provide direct feedback on the uploaded designs.
I sent the 15 seconds Valorant live stream teaser video to the Riot Games to get a confirmation that we are allowed to use it on social media.
Riot Games was really impressed with the teaser video quality and so they let us use some of their game characters in our Social media campaign.
We were able to use and post the teaser video on the Social media such as instagram, facebook, and twitter as well as youtube and Twitch.
We managed to create an ok trailer to promote our event as well as the game.
It was difficult as an unknown company to get access and permission to use all the right assets. At the end we succeeded but not before earning Riot Games Trust by making something out of nothing.
