Title: Senior UX Designer
Tasks : UX, Art Direction, Motion design
My task is the conceptualization of advertising ideas and executing them into visually stunning and effective campaigns. After finalizing the concept, I created two versions of the wireframe Nascar warp & Firesuit design and Point of sale suite design for Gamestop to gain approval by the client.
Are Right, A Lot | Learn and Be Curious | Have Backbone
Disagree and Commit | Deliver Results
I was working on this project for EA when working at Tapestry, an advertising agency in London. The team, at the time, was working on the EA’s Star Wars Battlefront Packaging design, Digital design and Point of Sales design for Gamestop and Walmart.
My boss asked me to complete the NASCAR project myself. I had a photo retouching experience so he suggested that I work on this project and deliver it.
Deadline: in 2 weeks
Task: Driver Side, Passenger Side, Front, Back of NASCAR design, Fire suit design, 2d mockup
First I organised a Brainstorming session to gather and share ideas with Head of Design.
I created a persona of the audience based on target age group, gender research, region, user preference info etc.
Furthermore, I checked the NASCAR template provided by the car wrapping company and reviewed the Star Wars Keyart.
I researched the latest NASCAR designs in order to find the location of the Gamestop Sponsor logos. They are found on the rear, left and right.
Developed solution
According to the client's request, I used the Keyart to create A,B versions. The A version of driver side mockup focus the war scene and AT-ST character
B Version is focus to the bottom of the Keyart, Dark background with Lava planet. It makes the sponsor logos stand out.
I also created a 3D mockup of the NASCAR with the design for the client.
The benefit of 3D mockup, you can see the front, top and driver side at the same time. You can easily imagine the final car wrapping design.
After completing the NASCAR design, I started research on the fire suit design.
I did an internal survey to identify the favorite Star Wars Battlefront Characters
Based on the internal survey. I decided to create a Storm Trooper for the version A of fire suit.
It was my favorite character as well.
I also created a 3D mockup, similar to the one I had created for the car. I was hoping to get more customer buy in for the idea.
There was a concern that the white suit would not offer enough contrast for the sponsor logos.
I also created B of the fire suit design. The Skywalker and Darth Vader are both black so I selected the Skywalker with the Rebel symbol on the upper.
At the end, EA selected the Skywalker version of Fire suit design. The suit is covered with many logos and stickers, which I did not consider in my initial design.
It turns out that you are not able to produce and use a custom helmet im NASCAR racing. There are regulations around that.
A point that I did not consider in my proposal for the Storm Trooper firesuit design is that the stormtrooper is from the Empire and that the Empire is evil.
It was part of the decision why the customer went with the rebel design.
In addition to that the black colour of the Rebel design is way cooler.
EA selected the Lava on the bottom version NASCAR car wrapping with the Lava on the bottom edge. The dark theme of the lava planet makes a good background for the sponsor images and logos and allows them to stand out more.
The end result was I managed to finish the NASCAR and Fire Suit design in one week and to the customers specifications. EA was so happy with our work that they booked us for their NASCAR design the following year.
